WrightSpark Tester is a hands-on practice tool for electrical apprentices learning the mandatory tests in AS/NZS 3000 Section 8. It was built by an electrical trainer. Every job is a realistic domestic installation you test from start to finish with a multifunction tester.

Three ways to practise

⚡ Testing & Verification (Section 8) You arrive at a job: a new install to commission, a rental inspection or a fault call. Isolate and prove dead, then work through the tests in order:

  • earth continuity (main earth, bonds, circuit earths)
  • insulation resistance
  • polarity
  • loop impedance
  • RCD operation

Place your probes, zero your leads, run a wander lead and bridge where needed. Record each result against its limit from Tables 8.1 and 8.2. Every install is different: circuit sizes, spare ways, one or two lighting circuits, and a shed sub-board with or without its own MEN. Hidden faults are waiting to be found.

🔧 Appliance Testing Open the terminal box on single-phase and three-phase motors, transformers, ovens and hot water units. Test the windings, elements and insulation, then diagnose what's wrong. Focus on motors, transformers or appliances if that's your weak spot.

🔌 Wiring Up Wire a main switchboard and circuits off it using the right cable sizes and colours. Test your own work before you energise, then submit it for inspection.

Built for how apprentices actually learn

  • The meter shows only the number. You decide pass or fail, just like on the job.
  • Your method is marked, not just your answers: test sequence, zeroing, proving dead, and leaving the install safe at handover.
  • "Show me" in the review takes you to exactly where a mistake happened on the board.
  • Beginner, Intermediate and Expert levels. An optional "How to do this" guide walks you through the procedure step by step.
  • TAFE Capstone mode: show your test points before you test, then get each result in the right spot on the sheet.

For trainers

  • Class job codes: give out a code and everyone gets the identical job.
  • Assessment mode locks the hints.
  • Records: learners' finished jobs are saved, and export as a CSV or text report to hand in.

Works on phone, tablet and PC. No install, no account.

This is a training simulation. Readings are simulated, and it doesn't replace supervised training, the Standards themselves, or your RTO's assessment. It's in beta, so if something reads wrong or doesn't match the Standard, tap ⚑ Report a problem and let me know.
